James Rouvelle is an artist, inventor, and tinkerer who traded his classical music training for micro-controllers and robotics. Interested in creating and experiencing works that come from a genuine, personal interest, that reveal surprising relationships and systems, Rouvelle comes to his work through a hybrid practice that includes scientific methodology (logic, statistics, instrument building), discourse and presentation. He is presently Professor of Interactive Media at The Maryland Institute in Baltimore, has shown at Post in LA, Schmucker Art Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and has a commissioned work for ISEA 2006 in San Jose, CA.
