Prema Murthy's work examines the shifting boundaries of a gendered and socially constructed body by remapping its surface through various forms of new technologies. She explores new forms of gender embodiment through performance and net-based installation, digital prints and sound. Her work has been shown at several venues including The Clocktower Gallery-NY, The Gertrude Stein Repertory Theater-NY, Sandra Gering Gallery-NY, MIT-Cambridge, MA, The Alternative Museum-NY, The University of Iowa-IA, and The Bianca Pilat Gallery-Milan, IT. Prema has also collaborated with digital art groups Floating Point Unit, The Electronic Disturbance Theater, and Fakeshop. She has been awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Computer Arts and is currently an artist-in-residence at Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center in New York. In the Fall 1999, she will be presenting with Fakeshop the performance/installation, multiple_dwelling at The Ars Electronica Festival.
