"Founded in 1977, the Center is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) arts and educational organization.  Services include: darkroom, library, slide/video archives, permanent print collections, slide registry, classes, lectures, film/video screenings, workshops, gallery talks, internships, portfolio reviews, and memberships.  Center galleries and educational resources are free and open to the public.... The Center's mission is to provide an artistic home for contemporary photographers with programs in education, exhibition, publication, and services which create access to professional workspace, nourishing responses, and new audiences." (1)  "The Center receives funding from the New York Sate Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as many major corporate and private donors." (2)

Other publications of the Center for Photography at Woodstock's include PHOTOGRAPHY Center Quarterly#: Building Links, PHOTOGRAPHY Building Links, and The Surrogate Figure: Intercepted Identities in Contemporary Photography.

"Since 1979 the Center has supported the Woodstock Photography Workshops program, attracting master photographers who create and share images with workshop participants, providing hands-on work, problem-solving, and critiques." (3)
