Prior to that she was Assistant Professor of Media Studies at the University of Siegen, both Germany. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Hanover (1989); and the postdoctoral degree \u0027habilitation\u0027 from the University of Konstanz (1997). She is author of the monographs \u0022Eine Pf\u00B8tze in bezug aufs Mehr. Avantgarde\u0022 (The Concept of Avantg-garde), (Peter Lang Press, 1991), \u0022Intermedialit\u2030t. Das System Peter Greenaway\u0022 (Intermediality. The Systems of Peter Greenaway), (Wilhelm Fink Press, 1998), and \u0022Video. Das reflexive Medium\u0022 (Suhrkamp Press, 2005). The English edition \u0022Video. The Reflexive Medium\u0022 is published with MIT Press, 2008. She has edited \u0022Kunst und Politik der Avantgarde\u0022 (1989), \u0022Image - Media - Art\u0022 (German and English, 1999, together with Gundolf Winter), \u0022What is Intermedia?\u0022, special issue of Convergence, winter 2002 (together with J\u00B8rgen Heinrichs), and is editor of \u0022Hybrid Identities in Digital Media\u0022, special issue of Convergence, winter 2005 (together with Kerstin Mey) and the section \u0022Forty Years of Video Art\u0022 of Art Journal (2006). Research grants and fellowships include the Getty Center (1989/90), The Society for the Humanities at Cornell University (2000/2001), The Rockefeller Foundation\u0027s Bellagio Study \u0026 Conference Center (2002), The Daniel Langlois Foundation (2003 and 2004), the Japan Foundation (2005), and the National University of Singapore (2007).
