He studied organ and composition at Kalamazoo College and continued his composition studies with Milko Kelemen (composition, orchestration) and Erhard Karkoschka (electronic music) at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, Germany in 1987. He is active throughout Europe, North America, Asia and South Africa as a composer, sound projectionist, sound artist and specialist for live-electronics. His works include ensemble and solo compositions, numerous compositions for solo instrument with live-electronics or tape, as well as music for voice, tape pieces and sound installations. He has received awards and scholarships from the Province of Baden-W\u00B8rttemberg, the Darmstadt \u0022Ferienkurse\u0022 (Summer Music Academy) and the Experimental Studio of the Heinrich-Strobel-Foundation of Southwest German Radio (SWR). He performs regularly with orchestras such as the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of the West German and Bavarian Radio (WDR and BR), the Dutch Radio Symphony Orchestra in Hilversum, the Bamberger Symphoniker, the MusikFabrik NRW and \u0022ensemble recherche,\u0022 under conductors such as Peter E\u00F6tv\u00F6s, Jonathan Nott, Lothar Zagrosek, J\u00B8rg Wyttenbach and Johannes Kalitzke. Bryan Wolf has performed with internationally known soloists including soprano Petra Hoffmann, flutist Camilla Hoitenga, trombonist Michael Svoboda, pianist Benjamin Kobler, the piano duo Grau/Schumacher, trumpet soloist Markus Stockhausen, and cooperated in a Stockhausen project with pianist Maurizio Pollini in Tokyo in 1998. Festival appearances include Wien Modern, Wittener Tage f\u00B8r Neue Musik, M\u0192RZMUSIK Berlin, \u0022ars musica\u0022 in Brussels, \u0022musica\u0022 Strasbourg, the ECLAT festival in Stuttgart, Klavierfestival Ruhr, the \u0022PAUSE\u0022 series in the Duomo in Milano, KLANGART Osnabr\u00B8ck, the Bridges Festival in Cracow, the National Flute Convention in Nashville/USA, as well as appearances in Paris, Saarbr\u00B8cken, Bucharest, Prague, Sweden and South Africa. He is a regular guest at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. In 1999 he appeared as a soloist (synthesizers and live-electronics) with trombonist Michael Svoboda in Andreas Breitscheid\u0027s children\u0027s opera \u0022P.A.G.S.!\u0022 at the Junge Oper Stuttgart. Performances of the compositions of Karlheinz Stockhausen are a special emphasis of Bryan Wolf\u0027s activities as a sound projectionist. He first worked with Stockhausen in 1989 and has been Stockhausen\u0027s personal sound projection assistant since 1998. In addition to numerous performances and an award-winning recording (Wergo Records) of \u0022MANTRA for 2 Pianists\u0022 with piano duo Grau/Schumacher, he has performed many of Stockhausen\u0027s compositions as sound projectionist, including \u0022HYMNEN - 3rd Region with Orchestra\u0022 (Wien Modern/RSO Hilversum/Peter E\u00F6tv\u00F6s), MICHAELs REISE (MICHAELs JOURNEY ROUND THE EARTH) with Trumpet and Orchestra (Cologne Philharmonic Hall/MusikFabrik NRW/Markus Stockhausen/Johannes Kalitzke) and the German staged premiere of MICHAELs JUGEND (MICHAELs YOUTH) from DONNERSTAG aus LICHT (THURSDAY from LIGHT) during the M\u0192RZMUSIK-Festival in Berlin in March 2002. Bryan Wolf was the 2nd sound projectionist (with Karlheinz Stockhausen) for the world premiere in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and German premiere in Cologne of \u0022HOCH-ZEITEN for choir and orchestra\u0022 (performed in two halls simultaneously). Important performances of electroacoustic works by Stockhausen have taken place under Bryan Wolf\u0027s supervision, including the Polish premiere of UNSICHTBARE CH\u00F7RE (8-channel tape projection) in Cracow, the French premiere of MITTWOCHs ABSCHIED (8-channel tape projection) at the \u0022musica\u0022 Festival in Strasbourg and the Portuguese premiere of \u0022HYMNEN - 3rd Region with Orchestra\u0022 in Lisbon. Bryan Wolf has held lectures, seminars and participated in symposia on electronic music worldwide, and heads the class for sound and spatial design at the School of Design at Pforzheim University, Germany.","offset":0,"nextOffset":null,"totalCharacters":3959,"complete":true},"rightsUrl":"https://www.videohistoryproject.org/terms-service"}
