Abby Luby

Luby has been creating conceptual videos for about 20 years. Most of her work is concerned with structure, myth and the power of the image to create or recreate the archetypal or mythic symbol. Some of the work has original sound scored for specific visuals, as well as original text. The work also addresses political questions that are fundamental to the questions of content, symbol and meaning.

A few years ago Luby joined "Voices From History" a local media group; they produced a documentary about Paul Robeson in Peekskill: 1949 otherwise known as the "Peekskill Riots." They have also produced videos interviewing elders of the area. Their personal testimonies are of stories that will never be in history books, and add an edge in preserving local history.
