http://www.anabelazigova.net Born in 1974 in Bratislava, Slovakia, Anabela Zigova now lives in New York. Her work has gradually developed from body related objects, performance and video toward cinematic structures based on writing, socio-political research and film language. These works examine possibilities of narrative, psychology and visual stereotypes. Recently, her short film work participated at the Lovebox project at "Nuit Blanche" in Paris. Anabela Zigova is developing a feature length film project which was exhibited as work in progress at the Le Roy Neiman Gallery at Columbia University in 2006 and as a solo show "Scenes from the Script Workshop" at the Beauty Room gallery in Paris. This project was also invited for a panel discussion at the "Transgression Conference" at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at City University of New York City where she is currently a visiting scholar in the Sociology Department. Her work has been previously shown at numerous group shows including the Exit Art gallery in New York, Dresden Kunsthalle in Germany, the gallery of Cite des Arts in Paris where she was also an artist-in residence, the Paris Project Room, gallery MXM in Prague, the Slovak National Gallery and Hotel Pupik in Schrattenberg Austria. Her short films were exhibited at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, the Lausanne Underground Film Festival in Switzerland, the First Nagano Film and Video Festival in Japan, Art Film in Slovakia, Anthology Film Archives in New York and many other venues. Anabela Zigova participates in collaborative artists' projects such as "Constructing a practice in the space of Post autonomy" and including "Local Operations" at the Serpentine Gallery in London and "ETC Series" at Andrew Krepps Gallery in New York. She received a Masters in Fine Arts from l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris and an M.A. from the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava. She also studied Film and Video at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
