Anita Cheng

Anita Cheng holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Michigan. Cheng's choreography and media work has been presented in theaters, galleries, on DVD and the Internet. In 1998 and 1999, she received two Experimental Television Center Grants for her dances with video.

In 2001 she was one of four emerging choreographers invited to the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival to take place in a joint workshop with compositional fellows at Tanglewood Music Center. She has received numerous scholarships, including a Fulbright Grant in choreography for Hong Kong (1991) and a Fulbright Grant to the Federal University of Rio De Janeiro (2007) to teach digital art and performance in the School of Communications (ECO). In collaboration with Ronaldo Kiel, Cheng has been an artist-in-residence at Dance Theater Workshop's Media Lab (2004) and the Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Study and Conference Center in Italy (2005). In 2005, Cheng and members of her dance company created a site-specific video installation for the Lobby Gallery of the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library titled “Novel Lift.”

Cheng and company received a 2005-06 choreographic residency from The Joyce Theater Foundation at Joyce SoHo. In 2007, Cheng was given a residency and commission for "For Once, Then, Something," from the Mulberry Street Theater’s Ear to the Ground series in Manhattan’s Chinatown. In October of 2007, her dance video polyptych, "Journey (work-in-progress)" was shown as a large scale installation at Oi Futura, a cultural center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Brooklyn Public Library commissioned Cheng and Kiel to create a site-specific dance video installation, “Relay,” for the Central Library which opened Feb. 5th 2008. Cheng also received a residency and dance commission from the Art and Technology Symposium at Connecticut College, which premiered at the end of Feb. 2008, titled, “Remembered River.”

    Ronaldo Kiel received a BA in arts from the Art Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and an MFA from Brooklyn College; he completed post-graduate study through a CAPES/Fulbright grant that brought him to the USA. His digital video and computer artwork was selected for festivals, international exhibitions and symposiums on art and technology, including the Prix Ars Electronica in Austria and the International Media Art Biennale in Poland; he is currently an Assistant Professor at Brooklyn College. In 2001 Cheng & Kiel premiered D'Invenzione, an interactive four-channel DVD-video installation at SESC Pompeia in São Paulo, and one month later the work was shown at the inaugural Santander Cultural Center exhibition in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

    Jillian McDonald teaches art at Pace University in New York City and curates and co-directs the Pace Digital Gallery; her critical writing and curated projects focus on performative art in temporary or unexpected places, including the online exhibition Ebay: Buy or Sell or Buy. Her work has been shown at The Whitney Museum's Artport, Year Zero One (Toronto), La Biennale de Montréal and ISEA 2004 (Talinn), and recent solo/two-person shows include vertexList, TPW and YYZ. She has received grants from The Canada Council for the Arts, Soil New Media, Turbulence, The Gunk Foundation, NYSCA, The Experimental Television Center, Thirdplace.org and Pace University, and has lectured and held residencies at DAIMON, Sagamie, La Chambre Blanche, Em-Media and Harvestworks.

  • Jeffrey Martin People

    Jeffrey Martin, born in Berkeley, California, is an American video artist and filmmaker with contact addresses in New York and Charlottesville and representation by Jon Levin at CAA and The Film-Makers' Cooperative. His 2005 output includes video documentaries and short works (e.g., The Way of Dance; The Tea Gardens of Taiwan) and his 2006 schedule lists video and 16mm/35mm film projects; his practice uses video, sound and digital effects. He exhibited and lectured widely in 2005, published in TEA magazine and other outlets, and held residencies including Taipei Artist Village and VCCA, with a Virginia Commonwealth University award.

  • Nancy Golden People

    Nancy Golden is an Instructor of Media at Baruch College; she has had recent exhibitions at Artists Space (New York City), The Knitting Factory (New York City), The Center for Photography at Woodstock, York College and the Chamot Gallery. Her works have been screened at Massachusetts College Gallery of Art, Chamot Gallery, the Jersey City Biennial, Irving Goldman Memorial Gallery and Art in Plain View.

  • Eleanor Dubinsky People

    Eleanor Dubinsky is a multidisciplinary artist working in video, sound and performance who rehearses and performs in public spaces worldwide; her TRANSIT (video/dance/sound) was created and presented in the main train station in Tabor, Czech Republic in July and August 2004 and she is developing an expanded TRANSIT for a New York City subway station. She graduated from Brown University in 1998 (BA Educational Studies), has lived and worked in Western and Central Europe, composes for dance and is making Coupling, a sculpture of mushrooms and red thread.
