    The Television/Society/Art symposium at the Kitchen in New York City, Oct. 24–26, convened theorists, critics, filmmakers and activists and was organized by Ron Clark and Mary MacArthur with $6,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts and $5,000 from the American Film Institute plus additional pledges; panelists included Benjamin Buchloh, Rosalind Krauss, Fredric Jameson, Herbert Schiller, Steina Vasulka, Jean-Pierre Gorin and Yvonne Rainer. Sessions treated television as a social institution, semiological and Marxist critiques, and the relationship of television and art; proceedings were marked by heated debate, audience interventions, limited videotape screenings (only Jean-Luc Godards work shown) and responsive additions to panels, and future conferences were announced.
