Bienvenida MatÌas

In addition to being an award-winning filmmaker and highly regarded teacher, Bienvenida MatÌas was the Executive Director of the Center for Arts Criticism in Minneapolis, and she is a founder and former National Coordinator for the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP).

She has been the Director of Production for ITVS, as well as the Executive-in-Charge of Production at WNYC-TV. She is now the Director of AIVF.

    Luciana Sanz is an Argentinian video artist, technologist and writer based in NYC; she earned a BFA with honors in Film/Video Production and Literature from Tisch, NYU and completed a Masters at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn on a full academic scholarship. She won first prize in Poetry from the Buenos Aires Cultural Council for Young Writers (1997), worked at the Experimental TV Center and spent three years as a systems integration designer at the Hayden Planetarium implementing 3-D graphics for multi-projection immersive environments. In 2001 she joined Amoeba Technology and toured internationally as a videographer and multimedia artist.

    Galen Joseph-Hunter has served as Executive Director of free103point9 since 2002 and worked at Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) since 1996. She co-curated Video Jam with Michael Rush at the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art (2001) and curated See Through at PBICA (2000); other projects include Video Windows (2001), Tune(In))) (2003), Tune(In))) The Kitchen (2004) and Airborne (2005).   • Angel Vasquez People

    Angel Vasquez is a social issue activist filmmaker born in Puerto Rico; he holds a BA from San Francisco State University and is founder and director of Youth Media Project, a media literacy project. His work has been screened at the Pacific Film Archive, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Film Arts Independent Film Festival, SF Latino Film Festival and Free Speech TV; he presently teaches in the SFSU Cinema Department.

  • Amoeba Technology People

    Luciana Sanz performs as Lu(x)z and is a member of the collective Amoeba Technology; Amoeba comprises electronic musicians, djs, video artists, filmmakers and environmental architects and since the early 1990s has performed, created and curated productions presented in Berlin, Brazil, Amsterdam and Paris. The collective has also performed widely in New York at Tonic, Dumbo, the Williamsburg Art Center, Combustive Arts, the Bang on a Can Festival at Symphony Space, Yale University and Pseudo Space. Sanz, an Argentinian video artist based in Brooklyn, NYC, focuses on live real-time video processing via software and external hardware controllers and on projecting captured and processed film and video onto multiple mapped surfaces for live manipulation and compositing.

  • Karen Helmerson People

    Karen Helmerson is Director of the Electronic Media and Film Program and has worked with independent and community-based media for over 20 years; she served as Deputy Director of Film/Video Arts and as Associate Director of the Educational Video Center. As former chair of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) International Committee she traveled throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Japan speaking on access, literacy and development; she has exhibited as a video artist, served on the board of the Media Alliance and was recently a NYSCA Arts in Education panelist.
