Blithe Riley

Blithe Riley is a video, performance & installation artist. Her work combines narrative fragments with systemic structures, and explores the operations of spectatorship in various contexts. Incisive and uncomfortable, her works often reveal us to ourselves and turn the audience-performer relationship on its head.

Her recent projects explore relationships between space, navigation, and perception in the urban environment. These works seek to unveil dynamics of power and design, as well as the shifting nature of the city landscape when observed through unusual points of view.

Riley received a BFA from Alfred School of Art and Design in 1999, and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2005 where she taught courses in video and performance. Her work has screened nationally & internationally at venues such as the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The Kitchen, Roulette, Broadway 1602 Gallery and Monkeytown in New York City, The Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and The European Media Arts Festival in Germany.     Kristine Marx holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from Hunter College; she has served as lecturer at the Whitney Museum of American Art and at the Hudson River Museum and has curated shows for several galleries in Manhattan. Her work has been exhibited at Plane Space, NY and in group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Canada and Germany.     Laurie Beth Clark was raised in New York City and holds a B.A., an M.A. in Visual Arts and an M.F.A.; since 1985 she has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where she teaches Installation and Video and has held administrative roles. Her multidisciplinary practice uses video, performance, installation and multimedia to examine social issues; projects in Germany consider the holocaust and other genocides, and she is developing international research on trauma memorials and shopping environments. She received fellowships from Jerome and McKnight and published in anthologies such as A Performance Cosmology (Routledge, 2006).

    L. Halsey Brown is an NYC-based artist working in the digital realm; her site-responsive and video works have been shown at alternative venues, galleries and museums internationally. One ongoing project, Places We Are, is a series of site-specific video projects in everyday spaces that use video to explore the psychological implications of social spaces such as bars and tour buses. She is also a video curator; her most recent project, media(tion); fragmentation and acceleration, will be on view at The Center of Photography at Woodstock in November, 2000, and she has taught at Film/Video Arts and received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.
