Bobby Abate, like Britney Spears, is a slave to ritual, commercialism, self-reflexivity and contradiction. Not a boy, not yet a man - you might say he's painfully wedged under pop culture with his little head sticking out and screaming for help. His film, The Zero Order premiered in the 2000 New York Film Festival and his trilogy of Internet video shorts, Real Videos, were named one of the top avant-garde works of 2001 in the Village Voice. Currently, he is co directing Certain Women with Peggy Ahwesh, a feature length drama in five parts filled with humor, over-the-top despair, and wickedness. Bobby received the 2001 Princess Grace Award for his next project, a docu-drama on a faction of Britney Spears fans living in Sweden.
