Summary

Catalina Santamaria is a director, editor, cinematographer and photographer; her works include September 11 2002 (Digital, 10 min, 2001), Except my soul (16mm, 13 mns, 2000), Derail (16mm, 8 min, 1998) and the multimedia Echoes Through the Jungle (1993). Derail received the Kodak Cinematography Award, First Place Audience Award at The New Haven Film Festival and the Bogen Tri-pod Award; her films screened at festivals in New Haven, Cartagena, Bogota and Vina del Mar, and her photographs were exhibited in Cambridge (2004), Rayo Museum (2002) and Medellín (1994). She worked freelance as cinematographer, videographer and editor, was full-time photographer for El Diario La Prensa (November 2001–June 2002), and served as 16mm film production teaching assistant at New School for Social Research (September 1997–May 1999).

    Zoe Beloff is a moving-image artist working in film, stereoscopic projection performance, interactive media and installation; her projects are described as philosophical toys and increasingly address phantoms and cinematic illusionism. Raised in Edinburgh, she studied painting and art history at Edinburgh University and College of Art and moved to New York in 1980 to receive an MFA in Film from Columbia University. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including MoMA, the Whitney Museum (2002 Biennial), New York Film Festival, Rotterdam, Pacific Film Archives and the Pompidou; she collaborated with John Cale and the Wooster Group, received awards from the Experimental Television Center and teaches at City College and the College of Staten Island.

    Caroline Koebel is a filmmaker who has exhibited at US venues including Anthology Film Archives, Los Angeles Film Forum, Other Cinema and MadCat Festival and internationally in Brazil, Cuba, Ireland, Thailand and Poland; recent solo screenings include Millennium Film Workshop in NYC and Artist's Television Access in San Francisco. Her practice is informed by conceptual art, feminist film and literary theory and a punk DIY ethos and engages writing and curating; examples include the catalogue essay Color the Shadow on Carolee Schneemann and programs she curated as a Board Member of the Film-Makers' Coop; she holds a BA in Film Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD and lives in Brooklyn; website http://www.carolinekoebel.com.

    Roberto Guerra, born in Lima, is a documentary director, producer and cinematographer who earned an engineering degree from the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria and worked in Peru, Paris, London and New York; for over twenty-five years he collaborated with Eila Hershon on films including Frida Kahlo (first prize, Montreal Festival of Films on Art) and multi-part series on fashion and design. More than thirty films have been broadcast in over thirty-five countries; with Kathy Brew he produced a Snug Harbor installation (Oct 2001–Jan 2002) and Paradise Now (WNET/Thirteen, Jan 2001), and received Emmy awards in 1999 and 2000.

    Deborah Stratman was Adjunct Assistant Professor of Film, Video, and New Media (1998) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; she holds a BFA (1990) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Film/Video (1995) from the California Institute of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at Temporary Services Gallery (Chicago), Para/Site Gallery (Hong Kong), the Latvian Museum of Foreign Art (Riga) and Smioagalleri (Reykjavik), and screened at San Francisco Cinematheque, Rotterdam, Sundance, Viennale 2002, L'Alternativa (Barcelona) and CinemaTexas. Awards and support include the Center For Land Use Interpretation (Wendover, UT), Wexner Center for the Arts (OH), Danish Film Institute Workshop (Copenhagen), Illinois Arts Council Artist's Fellowships, the Gecko Award (CinemaTexas), THAW Best of Festival and CUFF Best Experimental Film.
