Charles Woodman

www.videosavant.org. Charles Woodman has been working in the field of Electronic Art for more than fifteen years and has been a Professor of Fine Arts at the University of Cincinnati since 1999. His recent projects have concentrated on the integration of video in live performances, often in collaboration with musicians or dancers, and on the creation of video installations for museums and galleries. Exhibitions of his work include screenings at the Block Museum of Art in Chicago, the New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference in Vancouver, Canada, the Black Maria Film and Video Festival, Edison, NJ, the American Dance Festival in Raleigh, NC, the San Francisco Cinematheque, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Woodman was a founding member of the video performance group viDEO sAVant and is currently working on the design of a new instrument for use in real time performance, a "gesture based interface for real-time control of video playback". He has participated in the Artist in Residence program at the Experimental Television Center for many years.

    Professor of Film and Video in the Department of Art and Art History at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York; programmer for the Alternative Cinema series at Colgate and curator of MOTION at Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute in Utica. Experimental film and video artist active since 1973 with screenings at international festivals including Viper Festival (Basel), European Media Arts Festival (Osnabruck), Dallas Video Festival and World Wide Video Festival (the Haag). Has received awards including the Judges Award at Black Maria Festival and Juror's Citation at the American Film Institute Video Festival; exhibits and single-channel tapes and 16mm films are available from the artist and New York Filmmaker's Coop. Ten video installations were constructed between 1984 and 2000.
