  • Matt Schlanger Chronology

    Matt Schlanger recorded Blue Mercury at the ETC in July 1986 after moving back to New York in the summer of 1985; he had spent the previous year in Owego building hardware for the Center and developing his own synths. He taught at the Center for Media Arts, parked his system in a Soho loft above Arnolds Turtle and later with Hank Linhart on North 13th in Greenpoint, where he collaborated with Hank, Terry Mohre and Laurie Needell and edited Before the Flood on a straight-cut system. Blue Mercury was first shown as a three-minute edit, later expanded to a 15-minute installation developed with Charlie Citron and screened at Monte Video in Amsterdam and in 1991 at the Thread Waxing space.

  • Frank Shifreen People

    Frank Shifreen is affiliated with Columbia University and Adelphi University; he has recent exhibitions at Scott Pfaffman Gallery, TNC Gallery and Open Space Gallery. He curated shows for NextMuseum (Detroit), TNC Gallery (NY) and Open Space Gallery (PA) and performed web development for Shamansdream, Hereincyberspace and The digitalmuseum. He is associated with Alan Moore, a founder of CoLab and the MWF Video CLub; he curated Art Against War for New York Arts Space, Macy Gallery at Columbia University and for three websites: drinkink.org, edigitalmuseum.org and http://www.retiform.ath.cx.

    Julius Vitali is Executive Director of Open Space Gallery in Allentown and a printmaker and interdisciplinary performing and visual artist who has worked with Hempstead Harbor Gallery (Glen Cove) and August House (Easton); he co-curated the traveling exhibition Pioneers of Digital Photography and authored the 2003 revised edition of The Fine Artist's Guide to Marketing & Self-Promotion (Allworth Press, NYC). He received awards from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation and a National Endowment for the Arts commission with Painted Bride Art Center; his work has been exhibited at Muse Gallery (Philadelphia), Sea Cliff Gallery and the Franklin Institute and is held in collections including the Bibliothèque Nationale (Paris) and Polaroid Corporation.
