  • Dan Sandin People

    Daniel Sandin is an artist, inventor and educator who directs the Electronic Visualization Laboratory and teaches in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago; he has exhibited worldwide and received support from the Rockefeller, Guggenheim, NSF and NEA. He developed the Glow Flow environment at the Smithsonian in 1969, built the Sandin Image Processor in 1973 and, with Tom DeFanti and students, conceived the CAVE virtual reality theater in 1991. His work is distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix and Video Data Bank and has appeared at Ars Electronica and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; honors include Guggenheim (1979), NEA (1980) and University of Illinois Inventor of the Year (2000).

  • Inconsecration of New Space Chronology

    Inconsecration of New Space was presented at the University of Illinois on January 23, 1973; performers were Dan Sandin, Jim Wiseman and Philip Lee Morton. The presentation incorporated the Sandin Image Processor built by Dan Sandin and the Paik Abe Video Synthesizer built by Jim Wiseman at California Institute of Arts; cameras, film and videotape were also used.
