Ed Tomney

Ed Tomney is a composer and visual artist. His work as a synthesist began with projects such as "The Last Gasp Ensemble" and the electronic trio "ENVLP". His involvement in this area of acoustic art evolved into larger scale pieces such as "The Mechanical Guitar Orchestra", a robotic ensemble designed for installation and performance consisting of automated electric guitar sculptures.

Subsequently, he composed a series of radio works in Europe, ("Kunstradio-Radiokunst", "Bilder Im Kopf" - ORF) and exhibited sound installations designed for public spaces involving passage such as stairwells, elevators, subway stations and hallways. In his solo installations ("Ecotype Transmissions") he incorporates reanimated spatial events with live mechanical events such as motorized transducer fields. Ed Tomney is also a member of the analog synthesis collective "Analogos" which performs regularly at Diapason Gallery.

    Ken Montgomery has worked since the early 1980s to develop novel sound practices, including sound performances in darkness, octophonic audio installations, and the enhancement of incidental machinery sounds.   • Joseph Reinsel People

    Joe Reinsel composed digital audio-visual works presented in England, Scotland and US cities including Los Angeles and New York; his pieces use live improvised audio and video (MAX/MSP/Jitter, NATO) with samples from field recordings and recent compositions reflect on the precariousness of nature. He holds an M.F.A. in Electronic Arts from iEAR Studios, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.A. in Music composition and Music technology from Radford University and is Digital Audio Specialist at the Brown Foundation Digital Media Center, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.

  • Matt McBane People

    Matt McBane is a multimedia composer and violinist whose work spans projected image and sound, minimalist electronic composition, and amplified/processed string quartet with live video; his pieces have been presented at The Whitney Museum of Art and Carnegie Hall. He composes interdisciplinary works including the half-hour Ghost in the Machine (with Lucy H.G.), leads the New York-based experimental band Build, and directs the Carlsbad Music Festival. He studied composition at USC Thornton with Donald Crockett, was an Associate Artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2007, appeared at festivals including Bang On A Can and Aspen, and has received grants from organizations including the Arts Ministry of New South Wales, the Norwegian Consulate, ASCAP, Meet the Composer, American Composer's Forum, and NAMM.
