Abstract

Electronic Music for the Seventies by the Boys from Putney Operator Manual for VCS3a Putney Synthesizer. Illustrated with photographs, descriptions, diagrams, technical specifications, and patch diagrams. Includes bibliography, foreward by Alfred Mayer. "...Personally, I don't believe that linear music is typical of what electronics can produce. A factor that has held back the field has been the high cost of the hardware. With this growth in desire, a third generation of synthesizers now appears on the horizon with lower cost; compact portable features such as the Putney. A miniaturized version of units used in the past, the integrated circuits results in smaller packaging, less heat and greater pitch reliability and maintenance. In addition, the actual manuals and teaching material, heretofore, have been virtually non-existant. Although our bibliography enumerates various articles and items that have appeared in print, the educational process has been lacking, in print...with the Putney and its matrix instead of patch cords, with the aid of the patches and templates; students can become involved in short order with the actual manifestation of sound production; they can then be redirected to this volume for comprehension of what was produced so readily and rapidly."
