Emily Breer creates live-action/animation films which have been screened in festivals and museums in the U.S. and internationally. THE PHONY TRILOGY (POOL BOY, CADDY, THE HORROR) is a real-time video-meets-digital-animation trilogy of shorts featuring Joe Gibbons as the phony who recounts his influence among such rock legends as Iggy Pop and Brian Wilson. Breer's last film, SUPERHERO, shows continuously at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. SUPERHERO and THE GENIUS, a feature she co-directed with Gibbons, were included in the 1995 Whitney Biennial. Most recently, Breer and Gibbons have collaborated on a series of one-minute videos, starring Gibbons, shot on Hi-8, and animated and edited on the computer. Joe Gibbons' dry humor comes across in obsessive monologues that scrape the bottom of a monomaniacal mind, spilling forth fantasies of power, destruction, and death.
