- ETC History 1983-85
In 1983–84 David Jones, assisted by Matt Schlanger, continued work on the Four Board Project; the system comprised a four-channel colorizer, keyers, a multi-channel programmable sequencer and oscillators and aimed to provide equipment for the Residency Program and define a low-cost imaging system for artists. They began study of the newly available Amiga computer; artists in this period included Shigeko Kubota, Paul Garrin and Arthur Tsuchiya. In 1984–85 the project was completed and installed at the Center; Jones and Schlanger, with Connie Coleman and Alan Powell, documented the system and revised the equipment manual to include new tools and to explicate keying, colorization and switching; artists included Merrill Aldighieri, Joe Tripician, David Blair, Peter Rose and Kathy High.

History 1981–82 lists studio artists Frank Dietrich, Thierry Kuntzel, Alex Roshuk and Matt Schlanger and notes Residency Program work exhibited at Siggraph, the Donnell Library, Global Village, the 7th Annual Ithaca Video Projects Festival and the San Francisco International Video Festival. History 1983–84 records NYSCA funding for a General Purpose Interface Board to link analog imaging equipment with an 8 bit computer, enabling remembered knob settings; David Jones and Peer Bode began initial research on a real-time frame buffer digitizing analog video at 256x256 with 16 shades of gray. The Pattern Program was developed as an internship project by Master’s candidates at SUNY to draw, store and deploy patterns or textures as movable matts or windows; artists listed include Nancy Buchanan, Amy Greenfield, George Stoney, Barbara Sykes and Ann Wooster.
- ETC 1972-73 Tools
While working for the Experimental Television Center the author and David built the first four Jones Frame Buffers; the pictured unit is the author's and may be the only one remaining in the original card rack after David rewired most into newer, larger boxes. The unit adds second-level control and 2v differential video inputs and output with a plexiglass panel; it was initially controlled by a Sinclair ZX81 with programs saved to audio tape and later adapted for control from an Amiga 1000. The buffer includes an internal keyer, four memory boards providing 64 frames and a pseudo-color option; Amiga Basic routines were compiled to C but required unbuilt libraries for blank switching, producing noisy routines.
- ETC History 1987-89
1987–89: the Center devised educational strategies to bring artists to fluency on computers and digital devices; a second Amiga was added (one for buffer control; one for videographics and audio), audio capacity gained a Mirage and mixing facilities, and work began on MIDI and control-voltage exchange boxes. The Center launched Electronic Arts Grants Program supported by the New York State Council on the Arts; Presentation Funds supported state exhibitions and Finishing Funds assisted project completion; artists mentioned include Shu Lea Cheang, Bob Doyle, Ernie Gusella, Barbara Hammer, Laurie Beth Clark, Peter Callas, Vanalyne Green, Jon Knecht and Sherry Millner.

- ETC History 1979-81
1979–80 equipment at the Center included a Z-2 8-bit computer with an S-100 bus, dual floppy drives and a CAT digital frame buffer; a Z-80 was also interfaced to an analog box and software development for video uses began. Artists in residence during 1979–81 included Alan Powell, Connie Coleman, Charles Atlas, Victor Velt, Jud Yalkut, Ren Weidenaar, Dan Reeves, Jon Hilton, Celia Shapiro and Peter D'Agostino; The Electronic Workshop series was presented to 17 organizations around New York State and the Center moved to Owego; in 1980–81 David Jones developed the Print Program for disk-captured videographic still frames with variable gray-level printing and additional software was produced by graduate interns under Paul Davis and Ralph Hocking.
