    1975–77 the Residency Program included Nam June Paik and Phil Jones (Ithaca Video Projects) and received National Endowment for the Arts support in 1975 for initial computer-video processing research. The LSI-11 was chosen; Jones developed keyers, a sequential switcher and the Jones Colorizer, a commercial SEG was modified and a 64-point matrix was built, and manuals and Paik Raster Control Unit information were produced and expanded by 1985; Cloud Music (Robert Watts, David Behrman, Bob Diamond) presented at Center, Video by Videomakers began, the computer was installed for artist use and regional school workshops were held with Binghamton's Roberson Center.

  • ETC History 1977-79

    1977-78: NYSCA funding supported David Jones and Richard Brewster in developing the Analog Control Box, enabling production of electronic sounds and signals that controlled video parameters; a computer project proceeded with assistance from Paul Davis, then director of the student computer lab and instructor at the School for Advanced Technology at SUNY-Binghamton. Artists in residence included Shalom Gorewitz, Sara Hornbacher, Hank C. Linhart and Hank Rudolph; workshops were conducted for the City of Binghamton, Headstart, Tri Cities Opera, the 4H Program and the Center for Media Studies at Buffalo.

  • ETC History 1979-81

    1979–80 equipment at the Center included a Z-2 8-bit computer with an S-100 bus, dual floppy drives and a CAT digital frame buffer; a Z-80 was also interfaced to an analog box and software development for video uses began. Artists in residence during 1979–81 included Alan Powell, Connie Coleman, Charles Atlas, Victor Velt, Jud Yalkut, Ren Weidenaar, Dan Reeves, Jon Hilton, Celia Shapiro and Peter D'Agostino; The Electronic Workshop series was presented to 17 organizations around New York State and the Center moved to Owego; in 1980–81 David Jones developed the Print Program for disk-captured videographic still frames with variable gray-level printing and additional software was produced by graduate interns under Paul Davis and Ralph Hocking.
