    Media Buff: Media Art of Buffalo, New York was presented as New York State Artists Series VIII at the Herbert Johnson Museum in Ithaca from September 9 to November 12, 1988; the exhibition focused on media art associated with Buffalo.     Chronology compiled by Marita Sturken for Afterimage (May 1983) documenting video programs at the Whitney Museum from 1971 through 1983; it lists exhibitions, biennials, retrospectives and thematic programs with artists and individual works. Entries record formats and presentation modes including projected video, two-channel pieces, satellite and Manhattan cable telecasts, film and video installations, audio installations and performance/telecasts; dates for works and exhibitions are given throughout. Notable recurring items include biennial exhibitions and a Nam June Paik retrospective.

  • John G. Hanhardt People

    John G. Hanhardt is Senior curator of film and media arts at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; he holds a B.A. from the University of Rochester and an M.A. from New York University. He was film coordinator at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1972–74) and curator and head of the film and video department at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1974–96). He curated exhibitions and film and video series at the Whitney and Guggenheim, edited Video Culture: A Critical Investigation (1986) and received the Peter Norton Family Foundation Curator's Grant (1993).
