    From the Academy to the Avant Garde was a traveling exhibition produced by Visual Studies Workshop in 1981; it was curated by Richard Simmons with a catalog introduction by Arthur Tsuchiya. The exhibition was shown at Visual Studies Workshop December 2-16, 1981 and at the Center for Art Tapes, Halifax, Nova Scotia January 22-February 8, 1982. Videotapes were presented in the following order: Howard Fried (Making a Paid Political Announcement); Davidson Gigliotti (Difficult Music); Juan Downey (Through the Looking Glass); Tony Labat (Challenge: P.O.V.); Frank Gillette (Symptomatic Syntax); Les Levine (Visions from the God World, (Part 1)).
