Felice Lesser
Felice Lesser was the recipient of the Lawrence S. Epstein Prize for Choreography, and has choreographed over forty dance works for her company, the Felice Lesser Dance Theater, as well as for other companies in the U.S. and abroad. Her works have been performed at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Joyce SoHo, Carnegie Recital Hall, the 1991 Tokyo International Choreography Competition, Sarasota Ballet, Wichita Ballet Theatre, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Currently an Artist-in-Residence for the states of Nevada, Idaho, and Montana, she has been on the faculties of the University of Connecticut/Stamford Campus, the New School, Chautauqua Institution, the International Summer School of Modern Dance (Scotland), and many professional dance schools. She holds a B.A. from Barnard College and an M.A. from Columbia University.
The Felice Lesser Dance Theater (FLDT) creates and performs new dance works. In its twenty-nine year history, the company has produced over forty dance works, a full-length play about dance and dancers (which featured projected computer animation and choreography), video/dance works, a number of original television broadcasts, and many contemporary music and contemporary art collaborations.
The FLDT is committed to education as well as performance, and has developed an extensive program of lecture-demonstrations, classes, residencies and workshops to develop audiences and bring the general public and students into the creative process and technical demands of dance. The company feels strongly that dance should be available and accessible to all, and provides outreach and free ticket programs to special and underserved populations. The Felice Lesser Dance Theater is a member of Dance/USA.
