Galen Joseph-Hunter

Guiding free103point9's transition to a nonprofit organization, Galen Joseph-Hunter has served as Executive Director since 2002. Simultaneously, she has worked at the venerable video art organization Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) since 1996. She was the co-curator, with Michael Rush, of Video Jam, an exhibition of recent video works by 42 artists at the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art, Florida, in 2001, and curated See Through at PBICA in 2000.

Other curatorial projects include: Video Windows (2001) at the Stefan Stux Gallery, New York; Interactions (2002), co-curated with Lori Zippay, at the New York Center for Media Arts, New York; Memory of Temptations (2002) at EdiciÛnMadrid, Spain; Tune(In))) (2003), a one-night installation featuring over sixty sound artists performing live into six radio transmitters; Tune(In))) The Kitchen (2004) part of the city-wide festival NEW SOUND, NEW YORK'; Airborne (2005) at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, and Microradio Sound Walk (2005) at the Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, Poland. She has served on numerous panels on Media Art and presented lectures on Transmission Arts including: ArtChicago (1999); Bard College (2001); The Kitchen (2002); Scope-art Fair (2002); Eyebeam (2005); Cornell College (2006); Observatori Festival, Valencia (2006); among others. http://www.free103point9.org.

Recent projects include a collaboration in a production with the electronic orphanage and artist Miltos Manetas and a guest curator role at the New Museum's Media Z Lounge organizing Cin-o-matic- Memory and the Cinematic Perception, which examined the impact of new technologies on the cinematic experience. She is organizing a group show entitled In Medias Res: Technology's Impact on Artistic Practice at Exit Art, NYC; she has consulted for http://www.Turbulence.org, a net art initiative, and for bitforms gallery, NYC, on marketing and distribution of software related art.

  • Dara Meyers-Kingsley People

    Dara Meyers-Kingsley is a film and video art curator specializing in collections management, preservation and exhibitions; she is a founding member and Director of Independent Media Arts Preservation, Inc. (IMAP) and has consulted for VidiPax. She served as Director of the Film and Video Collections at The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (1993–1996) and as film and video program curator at The Brooklyn Museum (1987–1993), organized 20 exhibitions, curated the touring Adrian Piper retrospective MEDI(t)Ations (1999–2001), and served on granting panels and selection committees for arts organizations.

  • Tarikh Korula People

    Tarikh Korula is an artist whose video and sound work has been shown at ISEA (France and Japan), Siggraph, London’s ICA and in the online collection Refresh: The Art of the Screensaver at ArtMuseum.net; his pieces have been performed in New York City venues. He received The Media Alliance’s Independent Radio and Sound Art Fellowship in 2002 for City/Slice, was Research and Development Artist-in-Residence at Eyebeam Digital Atelier in 2003, and earned his Masters from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in 2000. He has taught workshops at FIT and The Edit Center, runs Uncommon Projects, and works experimentally with consumer electronics, video, software and audio, producing projects including Square Dance and L'il Sis.

    Electronic Arts Intermix is presented (1975) as a New York not-for-profit supporting artists in electronic media; it operates the Artists Videotape Resource for distribution and editing/post-production and lists Howard Wise (President), John Trayna (Director) and Flora Meyer (Assistant); funding is from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. A 1982 statement by Howard Wise traces EAI origins to the Howard Wise Gallery and Nam June Paik exhibitions, cites Sony's 1967–68 portable television as pivotal, notes over 225 programs in the catalogue, and identifies artist-developed hardware and a 3 1/4-inch editing facility serving about 300 artist/producers annually.

    Adam Chao holds a BS from New York University and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts; he serves as an independent consultant for motion graphics and has been a video systems administrator for a commercial animation studio. He has performed at the Ontario Open Air Teknival and the Festival of Mixology at the Performance Garage; his work employs a focused palette of technicals using available digital resources.
