Geoff Matters

Geoff Matters uses his own software "GDAM" along with innovative homemade and repurposed physical controllers in live and interactive music performances, under his real name or the aliases GeoffGDAM and Lance Blisters. As a founder of the Share forum - an open jam for audio and video artists - he helps provide a weekly opportunity to explore developments in live, collaborative, and experimental art, as well as a venue for performances by local and touring artists. As Lance Blisters, he performs LIVE Jungle, Breakcore, Punk, and Noise using MIDI Guitar and Microphone, and custom software to create cutup political anthems - a new and unique blend of songwriting, live performance, and electronic music.

Geoff has performed in America and Europe at such venues as Baktun, Openair, Remote Lounge, The Kitchen, Chashama, and the Knitting Factory, and in festivals including Electroluxe (US), Phonotaktik (US), Transfert (US, France), and Mixology (US). Geoff has composed and performed music and video for several dance pieces by koosil-ja/dance KUMIKOKIMOTO, including mech[a] (2003), deadmandancing EXCESS (2004), public sleep/Sleepover (2004, 2005) and Live Processing (2006). He received a commission from the American Music Center's Live Music for Dance Program for Dance Without Bodies. Other grants include the Experimental Television Center and Meet The Composer.

    Jeff Donaldson (noteNdo) creates digital images and video by modifying common video game consoles and re-wiring their hardware to generate pseudo-random images; he manipulates video live with interfaces made for each system, including a control box, a MIDI interface and proximity sensors. The transformed game hardware functions as an audio/visual synthesizer capable of producing moving and still images; the work was begun in 1988 but was not documented until 2000/2001.

He was a 2000 research fellow at Argonne National Laboratory, in 2003 was in residence at STEIM, and his Compound Pilot collaboration won the Classic Web Award at SXSW 2006.

    John Roach searches for surprises produced when visual and aural phenomena are thrown out of synch; he elicits unexpected results from mundane objects and employs materials ranging from suitcases and old furniture to cheap electronic kits and hardware. Exhibitions include numerous Kenny Schachter exhibitions and other group-exhibition venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Santa Fe, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Mexico City. Multimedia projects comprise sound works to accompany video, a web-based collaborative composition game entitled DICTIONARY and Negative Space, and a streaming audio and video web collaboration with Spaceboat TV in Seattle; he has received Finishing Funds awards from the Experimental Television Center and lists a website at http://www.johnroach.net

  • David Weinstein People

    David Weinstein is a composer and multimedia artist whose musical and site-specific installation works have been shown worldwide; his musical practice juxtaposes sound effects, traditional and non traditional instruments, synthetic sound, ancient and exotic tunings, and noise. As a keyboardist he has recorded and performed with Shelley Hirsch, Elliott Sharp, John Zorn, Ned Rothenberg and Rhys Chatham; his theatrical, installation and multimedia pieces have received grants and awards. He participated in a long collaboration with the live video performance group The Poool and works with Doris Vila on animated, multi-user, multi-screen responsive environment installations cited at Prix Ars Electronica 2002.

  • Kjell Bjorgeengen People

    Kjell Bjorgeengen's art practice investigates reality; recently he has emphasized live collaboration with a wide range of musicians and the production of flicker videos, which have been presented in exhibitions since 2002. The flicker is described as sound given video sync that reveals self-identity and produces oscillations between light and darkness with physiological effects that can make black-and-white works appear in colour; still images read as minimal works while motion turns them into phenomena that touch the boundary between art and non-art.

  • Eric Rosenzveig People

    Willy Le Maitre, an intermedia artist since 1988, has collaborated with New York composer Eric Rosenzveig; Rosenzveig worked in Europe in the late 1980s with the trio FAT and made ritual and traditional music recordings. Their work integrates sound and moving image using David Rokeby's The Very Nervous System; they developed The Appearance Machine, a networked system that reanimates consumer refuse into media assets for logged galleries. They worked nomadically 1992–1997, produced the work Playlist, and won awards at LIFE 3.0 (Madrid) and Images Festival (Telefilm Canada prize, 2000, Toronto).
