Gokcen Ergene

Gokcen Ergene (aka Gekko) is an artist working mainly in film and video though his work flirts heavily with theatre and cross-disciplinary performance. Ergene has written and directed both for independent film and theatre. His productions and short films have been exhibited in the US and Europe.

In 2001, he has produced and directed his stage adaptation of Swiss writer Robert Walser's novel Jakob von Gunten (a US premiere) followed by a collaborative musical project with distinguished poet Stephen Sandy producing the record Timex, a collection of poems read by the poet and music by Ergene. He has composed music for film and the stage. His work in theatre, film and video strives to bring a new understanding of dramatic theory; making clear distinctions between theatre and play, story and behavior while blurring the line between fact and fiction.

He is a founding member of the performance group KUKLA that investigates tangent points between film, animation through live multimedia performances. He has taught film and audio production at Bennington College and Syracuse University. Ergene is currently working on a feature film: 9 Keys.     Andrea Staka, a Zurich-born filmmaker of Bosnian and Croatian parentage, makes films addressing pain, loss and displacement related to the Yugoslav wars. Her works include HOTEL BELGRADE, YUGODIVAS and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY; her films screened at Sundance, Locarno, Munich, Leipzig and Palm Springs and received numerous awards and nominations for the Swiss Film Prize. Her filmography lists YUGODIVAS (2000), DALEKO (1999), HOTEL BELGRAD (1998) and RUZA (1995); funding came from the Swiss Ministry of Culture, the Zurich Council for the Arts, Swiss Public Television and Arte.

    David Gatten is a filmmaker, Henry James fan, recent Guggenheim fellow and aspiring audio book producer who makes bookish films about letters, libraries, lovers and ghosts. His work has been shown internationally and screened at festivals including the New York Film Festival, Rotterdam, London, the Whitney Biennial and Kiel. His films are held by the Whitney Museum of American Art and Art Institute of Chicago; he lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn and Seabrook Island, South Carolina and teaches 16mm filmmaking and Wallace Stevens appreciation at The Cooper Union.
