Hank Rudolph

Hank Rudolph, Coordinator of the Experimental Television Center since 1984, provides individualized instruction to the artists in residence, as well as technical support. Prior to coming to the Center in 1984, he worked as videographer and editor at Binghamton's largest commercial station and for three years as an editor at the PBS affiliate, WSKG, responsible for postproduction of the nightly news program as well as a weekly locally-produced arts program. At the Center, Rudolph has served as production assistant with such artists as Peter D'Agostino, Taka Iimura, George Stoney, Reynold Weidenaar and others.

Rudolph has taught at Binghamton University, presently serving as Technical Specialist to the Department of Cinema, and also serves each year as media instructor for the New York State Summer Institute for the Arts, held for the last five years at Ithaca College.

Education 1979 BA, Cinema Studies, Binghamton University. Concentration in electronic image processing production with Ralph Hocking and the theory of the moving image with Maureen Turim.

1992-5 Media Instructor, NYS Summer School for the Arts, Ithaca College. 1993- Instructor, Basic Video Production, TIERS Program, Tioga County. 1995 Workshop Instructor in Image Processing, Rhode Island School of Design. 1992-4 Assistant, Digital and Analog Video. Provide instructional support for production classes taught by Ralph Hocking and Larry Gottheim at Binghamton University.

1993 Production assistant, Montage 93, Rochester, NY. "A Brief History of Space and Time in Video", an installation of antique tools and tapes from the Center. 1984- Arts Coordinator, Experimental Television Center Ltd. Responsible for Artists in Residence Program, including individual instruction in systems operations and some production assistance. 1985 Circuit Assembly, Design Labs. Responsibilities for PC board assembly, soldering, wiring and housing construction.

1984 Freelance video producer, The Music Workshop. Established audio production studio with musician Jay Mendelson. 1981-4 Videographer and Editor, WSKG-TV, Binghamton PBS Affiliate. Responsible for ENG and post-production for nightly news program, for videography and post-production of field segments for Artscene, a weekly regional arts program. Used 3/4" and 2" editing systems, production switcher, character generators, TBCs and studio and field cameras. Some directing experience. 1981 Videographer and editor, WBNG-TV, Binghamton CBS Affiliate. Binghamton's largest commercial station. Responsibilities included Teleprompter operation, 16mm film developing and editing for nightly news broadcasts. 1980 Established Studio 218 With videomaker Peer Bode and sculptor Alice Dudko.

Independent Production Work 1984 - Production Assistance for Independent Artists' Productions. Worked with artists Peter D'Agostino, Doris Chase, Taka Iimura, Celia Shapiro and Benny Powell, Reynold Weidenaar and others. 1984 Producer, Showtime at the Appollo, broadcast WSKG-TV. 1982 Production Assistant, Southern Voices, George Stoney and Doris Hays, producers. 1978 Production Assistant, Talking to Myself, Taka Iimura, producer. 1975- Production of personal video, audio and digital works.

    A SUNY Binghamton graduate and programmer active since 1971 reports that the Black Maria Film and Video Festival tours experimental films and video art to remote locales, including Central/Western New York. He notes a Central New York Programmers Group and cites regional centers such as Owego Experimental TV Center, Portable Channel (Rochester), Ithaca Video Project and Media Study/Buffalo.
