Jared Nielsen

Jared Nielsen engages in the distribution of material, energy, and information flows. These projects take a polyphony of forms: as actions that operate outside the realm of quantification; as the expenditure of useless energy or the useless expenditure of energy; as experiments in and through media to investigate the folds in perception and processes of thinking; and as explorations of the immeasurable and essential aspect of the interacting components of assemblages. The work questions the role of autonomous subjectivity and finite representation through projects that are collaborative, open-ended and accumulate over time.

Sources for these projects include but are not limited to horror and science fiction film, cognitive science, economics, the built environment, music, pedagogical structures, and garbage. The work is realized through orgiastic recycling, self-organizing educational forums, digital media and public interaction.

  • Daniel Langlois Foundation Chronology

    Assistance from the Daniel Langlois Foundation in 2004 and from the New York State Council on the Arts supported a project documenting early video/media instruments, including artist-built, collaboratively designed and commercial devices; the research links associated texts, documentation, technical data, maker biographies, interviews and tapes. Content derives from the project's tool and paper archives; the project is electronically photographing devices and in some cases creating moving-image records of tool functioning, and it is scanning related texts, documentation and ephemera such as posters, exhibition program notes and catalogs together with audio and video interviews.   • Seth Price People

    Seth Price (born 1973) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose conceptual work in video, sculpture, sound and text uses appropriation, recirculation and packaging to examine cultural production, information distribution and ideology. He authored the illustrated manifesto Disperson, designed in 2001–02 for the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Art catalogue and later published as an artist's book, and is part of the Continuous Project collective (since 2003) which has reprinted seminal art texts including the first issue of Avalanche. Price has exhibited in New York, Milan and Basel, and his videos have screened at Rotterdam and Tate Britain.
