Jason Van Anden's cybernetic artworks have evolved through a mixture of passionate art making and a compulsion to invent. By combining traditional fine art techniques, programming expertise, emotional intelligence and humor Jason strives to better understand humanity through technology. Products of this mixture of art and technology include a pair of emotive robotic sculptures named Neil and Iona, and Farklempt! an online video game where players earn points by how well they manage their feelings. Van Anden holds a BFA in Sculpture from Syracuse University and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. In addition to the Smile Project, he is the president and chief executive officer of Quadrant 2, Inc., a technology company he founded in 1996.
