Judy Malloy

Electronic narrative pioneer Judy Malloy has been writing hypernarratives since 1986 when she began writing Uncle Roger (a narrative of sex and politics in Silicon Valley) in 1986 on Arts Com Electronic Network on the WELL. Her hyperfictions include: its name is Penelope; (Narrabase Press, 1990; Eastgate Systems, 1993) Forward Anywhere (with Cathy Marshall; Eastgate Systems, 1996) l0ve0ne (Eastgate Web Workshop) The Roar of Destiny Emanated From the Refrigerator; (1996-1998) Dorothy Abrona McCrae; (2000) A Party in Silver Beach; (2002) and Sanctuary. (2003)

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including: The Boston CyberArts Festival; The Eighth International Symposium of Electronic Arts; Siggraph; Franklin Furnace; San Francisco Art Institute; Tisch School of the Arts, New York University; A Space, Toronto; Univ. of California, Berkeley; Sao Paulo Biennial, Brazil; P.P.O.W.; The Women's Studio Workshop; the San Antonio Art Institute; The Los Angeles Institute for Contemporary Art; and The Houston Center for Photography; Artemesia Gallery; and Xerox PARC where she was an Artist in Residence. She has had work published by Eastgate Systems; E.P. Dutton, Tanam Press, St. Martin's Press, Seal Press, MIT Press, the National Endowment for the Arts website, Springer-Verlag, Heresies; and the Blue Moon Review.     Melinda Rackham is an artist and writer based in Sydney, Australia; she has worked online since the mid 1990s from the domain www.subtle.net, creating imaginal and hypertextual sites that explore online identity, locality, sexuality, community, viral symbiosis and trans species relations. She is undertaking a Phd in Virtual Media at College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales; her writing has appeared in Ctheory, Culture Machine, Leonardo and Realtime, and she has presented at Contagion (Australia), Invencao (Brazil) and Consciousness Reframed (Wales). She has held residencies at Polar Circuit (Finland) and Discovery at Banff Center for the Arts (Canada); her award-winning web works have been included in Beyond Interface, Arco Electronico, Perspecta, Transmediale, File, Art Entertainment Network, The Montreal Biennale, European Media Art Festival and ISEA.

  • Laurie Beth Clark People

    Laurie Beth Clark was raised in New York City and holds a B.A., an M.A. in Visual Arts and an M.F.A.; since 1985 she has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where she teaches Installation and Video and has held administrative roles. Her multidisciplinary practice uses video, performance, installation and multimedia to examine social issues; projects in Germany consider the holocaust and other genocides, and she is developing international research on trauma memorials and shopping environments. She received fellowships from Jerome and McKnight and published in anthologies such as A Performance Cosmology (Routledge, 2006).

  • Alexis Bhagat People

    Alexis Bhagat is an intermedia artist working to dismantle authorship and authority through polyvocal sound, transmission-based conversation and continual correspondence; he is currently exploring the lecture as a form, including Lecture #4: Sound Composition as Anti-Authoritarian Writing and Lecture #5: Regarding Enemies (Bin Laden = Pope Pius VI). He edits the zine Tactical Sound and is co-editor, with Gregory Gangemi and Jason Quarles, of Sound Generation: Recording - Tradition - Politics, a collection of interviews with 21 contemporary sound artists, forthcoming from Autonomedia. He speaks and writes on anarchism, prisons and sound art, is a founding member of the August Sound Coalition, and his projects include ATM Poetry Opens (1994), Vehicle for Conversation (1999-2001), Whitman Death Songs (2002) and Lecture #2: On the Possibility of Life without the Sun (2004).

  • Carolyn Tennant People

    Carolyn Tennant holds an MFA from SUNY at Buffalo and a BA (1997) from Hampshire College; additional studies include Squeaky Wheel (2003), Visual Studies Workshop (2002), Mount Holyoke (1993–95), Cornell (1993–94) and the Salt Center for Documentary Field Studies (1994). Since 6/2002 she has been affiliated with the Experimental Television Center (Newark Valley, NY) and from 1/2002 served as Research Assistant for Dr. Zimmermann at Ithaca College, performing copy editing and administrative work. Her Chicago employment included office-manager and receptionist roles; her productions include Fenceline, The Last Hand Loader, Rulloff's Brain, Mazamorreo (recipient of a $10,000 Ill. Humanities Council grant), and the multi-media You Don't Feed Me.
