Julia D'Amico

The Highwaymen is Julia D'Amico's first documentary. D'Amico is a Florida native and first learned of The Highwaymen from a magazine article. After reading the story, she contacted the artists, introduced herself, and began making this film. Currently she is working on her second feature-length project.

In addition to her work as a documentary filmmaker, D'Amico is the Senior Vice President of Operations of a not-for-profit consultancy and labor supply company. D'Amico received a Bachelors degree with Honors in Sociology and a Masters in the Social Sciences both from the University of Chicago, and received a Masters degree in Cinema Studies from New York University. http://damicofilm.com

  • Film/Video Arts Groups

    Film/Video Arts began in 1968 when educators Rodger Larson and Lynne Hofer with filmmaker Jaime Barrios introduced 16mm equipment to Latino youth; it incorporated as the Young Filmakers Foundation and expanded after a major 1970 grant. In 1971 it opened the Media Equipment Resource Center (MERC) in a West 53rd Street basement to provide free production and postproduction services; it consolidated activities at 4 Rivington Street in 1973 and shifted focus to adults by 1978. Its founder's mission to make media tools and skills available remains its guiding force.

    Lauren Petty is a media artist and teacher working in sound, installation and film; she earned an MA in Video Art & Performance from NYU's Gallatin school in 1999 and is Chief Video Engineer at Harvestworks Media Arts Center. She teaches at The New School, the International Center of Photography and Pratt Institute and produces multiple-channel video/sound installations, single-channel works, interactive video scores and collaborative projects with The Wooster Group. Her work has been exhibited and screened at institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Brooklyn Museum; she has received grants and fellowships, including two New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships, and residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo.

    Julia Dzwonkoski is an artist and curator who graduated from SUNY Buffalo's Department of Media Study; she is producing a series of web-based artworks at www.mishaptic.com and a video on the history of credit cards. She is co-curator of an upcoming exhibition of contemporary prison art.
