Kevin Cunningham

Kevin Cunningham is a writer, director, designer, producer, inventor and entrepreneur based in New York City. He is the founder and Executive Artistic Director of 3-Legged Dog and led the company's recovery from its destruction in the 9/11/01 attacks and construction, fundraising and development of the 3LD Art & Technology Center, the company's new home in Lower Manhattan. He is the author, designer and director of many multidisciplinary artworks.

3LD serves as a home for 3-Legged Dog and hosts approximately 500 artists a year for 6 week to 3 month residencies focusing on large scale, complex experimental art of all kinds. Since 1994 Cunningham has focused on the creation of large scale, live, multimedia performance/installation works and on the development of intuitive technology for multiplexing and seamless interaction. Works include: House of Bugs (Ontological Theater), The Realism of Simple Machines, (La Mama), Automatic Earth (Signature Theater) and Kampuchea/Loisaida, (3LD Desbrosses Street), Accidental Records (Venice Biennale, 9th Annual Architecture Exhibit) Degeneracy, Losing Something and A Line of You at 3LD Art & Technology Center.

He is currently designing and directing 3-Legged Dog's multi-media performance/installation of Chuck Mee's Fire Island which opens in April of 2008 and completing work on a series of multi-layered interactive 3D video installations using the new Eyeliner 3D video projection technology. Over the last 25 years he has worked continuously as a writer, designer, director, artistic director, curator, or producer for visual art, theater, film, and media artists and companies in New York, Europe and elsewhere. Awards and honors include the 2007 American Theater Wing Hewes Design Award for Production Design of Losing Something, residencies at the Edward Albee Foundation's Barn and Bellagio and numerous grants and awards.
