Laura Kurgan

Laura Kurgan is an architect and artist whose work explores the interfaces between building, electronic media, and information technologies. Her design practice in New York City has recently completed new offices for WITNESS, a human rights organization co-founded by Peter Gabriel to distribute video technology and training to local activists. Her work also includes projects and installations that have been exhibited internationally, including "New York, September 11, 2001. Four Days Later..." at the ZKM in Karlsruhe as part of "Control_Space" (October 2001) and a pair of "Global Clock" projects, in which real-time financial data feeds drive digital clock displays (no. 2 at the Swiss National Exposition 2002).

She is currently completing a book titled You Are Here, which collects her projects and articles and asks how architects can respond to and make discriminating use of the revolution in our experience of space and time brought on by new technologies. She has published in Alphabet City, ANY, Archis, and Assemblage. Laura Kurgan is an architect and artist and Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at Princeton University; she holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.Arch. from Columbia and is affiliated with Laura Kurgan Architecture in New York.     Stephan Apicella-Hitchcock holds an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and a BA from Hampshire College; he is Assistant Professor of Photography and Graphic Design at Fordham University and has taught at School of Visual Arts, Parsons and the School of Fine Arts in Boston. He has received awards from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, CEPA Gallery and Visual Studies Workshop. His work has been exhibited in White Hot, Uprising at VideoSpace Gallery, the Short Attention Span Festival and venues including CEPA Gallery, the Contemporary Museum of Baltimore and the Whitney Museum; it has been published in CEPA Journal and Artvoice.

    Laurie Beth Clark was raised in New York City and holds a B.A., an M.A. in Visual Arts and an M.F.A.; since 1985 she has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where she teaches Installation and Video and has held administrative roles. Her multidisciplinary practice uses video, performance, installation and multimedia to examine social issues; projects in Germany consider the holocaust and other genocides, and she is developing international research on trauma memorials and shopping environments. She received fellowships from Jerome and McKnight and published in anthologies such as A Performance Cosmology (Routledge, 2006).

    Jennifer Hamilton holds an MFA from Concordia University and is presently teaching in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Regina; she received awards from the Canada Council and Concordia University and participated in residencies at the Banff Center. Her work has been exhibited at Harborfront (Toronto), Neutral Ground Artists Run Center (Canada), Loggia Gallery (Toronto) and the Science Museum (London).
