Maria Venuto

Maria Venuto works primarily with video. The Tourist is concerned with isolation and alienation as experienced by a displaced German traveller. It premiered on WNET/Channel 13's REEL New York and was screened in the US and Europe.

She is the Executive Director of The Standby Program where she has worked since 1993. She has also served as Co Editor of Felix.

    A SUNY Binghamton graduate and programmer active since 1971 reports that the Black Maria Film and Video Festival tours experimental films and video art to remote locales, including Central/Western New York. He notes a Central New York Programmers Group and cites regional centers such as Owego Experimental TV Center, Portable Channel (Rochester), Ithaca Video Project and Media Study/Buffalo. He credits SUNY Binghamton—recently turned twenty—faculty including Ken Jacobs and alumni with shaping programming and pedagogy, and names works such as Tom Tom the Piper's Son and other historical and contemporary experimental films.

    Caspar Stracke is a German visual artist based in New York City who works in video, film and new media; his works have been shown at institutions including MoMa and The Whitney NY and at international film and media art festivals across North and South America, Europe and East Asia. He is a member of THE THING and founder of the on-line list Lossless Video; he has curated for Eighth Floor Gallery and CITYZOOMS Hannover/Barcelona, has been co-director of video_dumbo in NYC since 2005 and is a guest professor at Ulsan University, South Korea, teaching Information Design.
