Mariam Ghani is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work in video, installation, new and tactical media maps the contrapuntal narratives that emerge in the border zones between cultures. Her recent and upcoming projects include: net art commissions for Turbulence.org and artwurl; screenings at the Liverpool Biennial, the Danish Film Institute, Futura in Prague, transmediale in Berlin, Smart Project Space in Amsterdam, Curtacinema in Rio de Janeiro, the Boston Center for the Arts, Cinema East, the Asia Society, Participant, Inc., Rooftop Films, the d.u.m.b.o. festival and the New York Video Festival; site-specific installations at Eyebeam Atelier, White Box, Exit Art, the Bronx Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Queens Museum, and the new Arab American National Museum in Dearborn; and texts for the Sarai Reader 05 and the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest. She received her B.A. with honors in Comparative Literature from NYU in 2000 and her MFA in Photography, Video & Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in 2002, where she received the Aaron Siskind Memorial Scholarship. Over the past four years, she has been a Soros New Americans Fellow, an LMCC artist in residence, and an Eyebeam Atelier artist in residence. She is currently an artist in residence at Smack Mellon in Brooklyn and a fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. She received a 2007 Finishing Funds award from the Experimental Television Center.
