Nick Hallett

Nick Hallett is a musician and avid curator working in the intersection of sound, moving image, and live performance. Nick's projects encompass singing various genres of new music (from opera to cabaret to extended vocal technique), composing for film and theater, and staging new media performance. He originated the band PLANTAINS, which from 2000 until 2003 operated as a live multimedia act, incorporating electronic music and video.

His New York opera debut was in 2005 at the Kitchen in Susie Ibarra's Shangri-La at The Kitchen. He has since presented several music-based multimedia concerts at The Kitchen, in addition to singing the music of Arthur Russell there as part of a shared bill in 2008. He has performed selections from Meredith Monk's cycle, Our Lady of Late, at Performa07 and the New Museum.

He is the co-curator of the Darmstadt series, which is regularly recognized in the New York Times and Time Out New York for its innovative programming of new music, in addition to being the producer and music curator for the Joshua Light Show. He has two original music-theater works in development, one with playwright Jessica Blank (The Exonerated, Iraq Refugee Project) and another with video-performance artist Shana Moulton (Whispering Pines).

    Nick Fortunato is a video, installation, and electronic artist whose work has been exhibited at Mass MoCA, Exit Art and The Kitchen; he designed video and still images for STREB's internationally touring shows Action Heroes and GO! and performed with STREB at Central Park Summerstage, Singapore Arts Festival and Teatro Municipal de Santiago (Chile). He launched VisualLiving.com, co-founded 10 Gallon Productions and was Associate Director of the Electronic Music Foundation. He performed live video with INTERFACE and contributed compositions to the Frog Peak / Chris Mann CD Collaborations Project.

    Nicolas Collins, composer and performer of electronic music, is Professor of Sound at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a BA (1976) and MA (1979) from Wesleyan University, CT. He has led Hacking workshops worldwide, worked with John Cage, Alvin Lucier and David Tudor, and is Editor-in-Chief of Leonardo Music Journal. Performances and installations include California Institute of the Arts (Valencia), Walker Arts Center and Whitney Museum of American Art; recordings appear on Lovely Music and Nonesuch; awards include DAAD (Berlin) and Thomas Watson Foundation.

  • David Galbraith People

    David Galbraith is a New York–based composer, performer and media artist working in sound installations, video, software and performances with self-built analog electronics. Composition 2005 No. 1 was shown at Diapason and is slated for a Diapason DVD; he received a 2006 Finishing Funds grant from the Experimental Television Center/NYSCA for lgOpre and enhanced it at STEIM in 2007. His work has been exhibited at P.S.1/MoMA, New Museum and KW Institute; he holds an M.F.A. (California Institute of the Arts, 1996) and a B.S. (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1988).

    Ben Owen's record lists residencies at Experimental Television Center (Oswego, NY, 2007, with Justin Lincoln), Dance Theater Workshop (2006), aMDAT (2005), Free103point9/Wave Farm (Acra, NY) and participation in Mountain Lake Workshop projects in 1997–1998 in Kyoto, Japan.
