    A SUNY Binghamton graduate and programmer active since 1971 reports that the Black Maria Film and Video Festival tours experimental films and video art to remote locales, including Central/Western New York. He notes a Central New York Programmers Group and cites regional centers such as Owego Experimental TV Center, Portable Channel (Rochester), Ithaca Video Project and Media Study/Buffalo. He credits SUNY Binghamton—recently turned twenty—faculty including Ken Jacobs and alumni with shaping programming and pedagogy, and names works such as Tom Tom the Piper's Son and other historical and contemporary experimental films.

  • University-Wide Celebration of the Arts Chronology

    Held April 26-29, 1974 at the State University of New York College at Fredonia; titled University-Wide Celebration of the Arts, the event involved participation by Film and Video Departments of the SUNY system. The program included a demonstration of the Paik Abe Video Synthesizer presented by Ralph Hocking, affiliated with the Experimental Television Center and Binghamton University.
