Paul DeMarinis

Paul DeMarinis has been working as a multimedia electronic artist since 1971 and has created numerous performance works, sound and computer installations and interactive electronic inventions. He has performed internationally, at The Kitchen, Festival d'Automne a Paris, Het Apollohuis in Holland and at Ars Electronica in Linz and created music for Merce Cunningham Dance Co. His interactive audio artworks have been installed at the I.C.C. in Tokyo, Bravin Post Lee Gallery in New York and The Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco.

He has been Artist-in-Residence at The Exploratorium and at Xerox PARC and has received major awards and fellowships in Visual Arts and Music from The National Endowment for the Arts, N.Y.F.A. as well as private foundations. Much of his work involves speech processed and synthesized by computers, available on the Lovely Music Ltd. compact disc "Music as a Second Language", and the Apollohuis CD "A Listener's Companion". Recent installation works include "The Edison Effect" which uses optics and computers to make new sounds by scanning ancient phonograph records with lasers, "Gray Matter" which uses the interaction of body and electricity to make music, and "The Messenger" that examines the myths of electricity in communication. Recent public artworks include the interactive installations at Park Tower Hall in Tokyo, at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and Expo 1998 in Lisbon.

    Stephan Moore is a composer, audio artist and sound designer based in Brooklyn and Troy, New York; he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Western Michigan University and Interlochen Arts Academy. His practice focuses on collection and use of real-world sound, creation and perception of sonic environments and technological manifestations of improvisation and interactivity; he worked in the Experimental Television Center Residency Program and uses a large multi-channel array of hand-built hemispherical speakers in performances and installations. He performs as half of the electronic duo Evidence, has created custom music software and taught courses at Maryland Institute College of Art, Peabody Conservatory, Massachusetts College of Art, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Simon's Rock College of Bard; he is currently Sound Supervisor of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
