Roger Luke DuBois

R. Luke DuBois is a composer, programmer, and video artist living in New York City. He holds a doctorate in music composition from Columbia University, and teaches interactive sound and video performance at Columbia's Computer Music Center, New York University, and the School of Visual Arts. He has done interactive programming and music production work for many artists, most recently Toni Dove, Chris Mann, Elliott Sharp, and Michael Gordon, and was a staff programming consultant for Engine27 for the 2003 season.

He is a co-author of Jitter, a software suite developed by Cycling'74 for real-time manipulation of matrix data. His music with his band, the Freight Elevator Quartet, is available on Caipirinha/Sire and Cycling'74 music.

    Bart Bridger Woodstrup (born 1973) is a computer musician and MFA candidate in the Integrated Electronic Arts Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York; he studies under Pauline Oliveros, Neil Rolnick, and Curtis Bahn. He applies formal visual-arts training, computer programming, and sensor data to generate real-time audio and video synthesis and to create video as visual support for his compositions. He has taught at the Illinois Institute of Art at Schaumburg and Northern Illinois University, worked in the Experimental Television Center Residency Program, and presented at SEAMUS, Siggraph, and ISEA.

  • Joel Chadabe People

    Joel Chadabe is a composer and pioneer in interactive computer music systems who has concertized worldwide since 1969 with Jan Williams; he authored Electric Sound: The Past and Promise of Electronic Music, which was praised by Robert Moog and Max Mathews. As president of Intelligent Music he published software including M and Max; his articles appeared in journals and his music was released on labels including Lovely Music and CDCM. He received awards and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts; he is Professor Emeritus at SUNY Albany, founder and President of Electronic Music Foundation, and holds degrees from UNC Chapel Hill and Yale University.

  • Ron Kuivila People

    Ron Kuivila is an artist and composer who pioneered the use of ultrasound and sound sampling in live performance; his recent work explores compositional algorithms, speech synthesis and high voltage phenomena. He has collaborated with composers, artists and choreographers and has performed and exhibited installations and concerts throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. He studied with Alvin Lucier at Wesleyan and with Robert Ashley and David Behrman at Mills College; he was an NEA Fellow at Creative Associates, artist-in-residence at Media Study/Buffalo (1979-80), a 1980 CAPS recipient, and is a Professor of Musicology at Wesleyan who curated Rock's Role (After Ryoanji) at Art in General in 2004.

  • Miller Puckette People

    Miller Puckette earned a B.S. in Mathematics from MIT (1980) and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Harvard (1986); he was a member of MIT's Media Lab until 1987 and then a researcher at IRCAM, where he wrote the Max program for MacIntosh computers (commercialized by Opcode Systems in 1990 and later available from Cycling74.com). In 1989 he developed Max/FTS for the ISPW (commercialized by Ariel) and his work was extended as jMax; he joined UCSD Music in 1994 and is Associate Director of CRCA, is developing Pure Data (Pd) for live performance (runs on Linux, IRIX, Windows), and since 1997 has participated in the Global Visual Music project with Mark Danks, Rand Steiger, and Vibeke Sorensen with support from the Intel Research Council.

  • David Galbraith People

    David Galbraith is a New York–based composer, performer and media artist working in sound installations, video, software and performances with self-built analog electronics. Composition 2005 No. 1 was shown at Diapason and is slated for a Diapason DVD; he received a 2006 Finishing Funds grant from the Experimental Television Center/NYSCA for lgOpre and enhanced it at STEIM in 2007. His work has been exhibited at P.S.1/MoMA, New Museum and KW Institute; he holds an M.F.A. (California Institute of the Arts, 1996) and a B.S. (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1988).
