On 12 July, 1962 the narrator performed at MoMA during Aldo Tamellini's Award of the Golden Screw; Aldo then opened The Center in a Lower East Side loft and organized a festival at St. Mark's-in-the-Bouwery Church. In October 1963 St Mark's hosted an independent sculpture show of forty U.S. sculptors; in 1964 Aldo began projection work and the narrator served as assistant projectionist and coordinator for intermedia events using slides, film and light equipment. The narrator opened The Gate Theatre to screen underground films and, with Aldo and Otto Piene, founded the Black Gate Electromedia Theater above the auditorium; legal conflicts included a three-month battle over flag burning and threats related to the underground film Brothel.
