1997 Animating the Static - Experiments in Video 1965-1980 Chronology
Program titled Animating the Static - Experiments in Video 1965-1980 presents tapes from the Yale University Libraries videotape collection covering work from 1965–1980; the collection item lists artists represented. 1997 Finishing Funds Chronology
Finishing Funds is a grants program of the Experimental Television Center, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts; awards for 1997 were made to numerous artists including Diane Brown, Luca Buvoli, Ethan Crenson, Jonathan Mednick and others. Recipients produced videos, films, installations, animation and a multi-media interactive CD Rom addressing subjects such as adolescence, identity, memory, domestic computing, internet collaboration, historical events and Holocaust memory. Projects used technologies ranging from 1950s TV sets and lo-tech materials to real-time internet participation and CD-Rom interactivity; a panel featured Pia Cseri-Briones and Jim Hubbard.

Bill Viola retrospective at the Whitney Museum of Art ran February 12–May 10, 1998; the exhibition toured to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Stedelikj Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. 1998 Circuits@NYS - The Arts in a Digital Age Chronology
Circuits@NYS - The Arts in a Digital Age was the Governor's Conference on Arts and Technology held March 27-29, 1998 in Palisades, NY; it was the first statewide forum focused on the intersection of the arts and the expanding technology industry and was a project of the New York State Council on the Arts in partnership with the New York Foundation for the Arts. Introductory acknowledgements were given by Debby Silverfine, Director of the Media and Film Program, New York State Council on the Arts.

Projects include web-based sonic art, digital video performance, 16mm film, multi-monitor and four-channel installations; several projects received additional funding from New Television's NTV Artbytes, Fulbright, the Banff Center, NYSCA, the Wexner Center, Art Matters, the Jerome Foundation, the Calvin Klein Foundation, the McAlpin Charitable Trust, the NY Community Trust and the Stonewall Community Foundation. A panel featuring Barbara Lattanzi and Vincent Grenier is noted.

Video History: Making Connections convened October 16-18, 1998 at Syracuse University in conjunction with the Common Ground Conference; it brought together over 250 media makers active in the 70s and artists working in new media and interactive technologies. The conference was sponsored by the New York State Alliance for Arts Education; funding and support came from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts Technology Planning Grant Program, public funds from the Statewide Challenge Grant Program and the New York State Council on the Arts, the Everson Museum of Art, the Media Action Grant Program of Media Alliance, corporate donors Dave Jones Design and VidiPax, and individual contributors.
