Shana Moulton and Nick Hallett

Shana Moulton creates evocatively oblique narratives in her video and performance works. Combining an unsettling, wry humor with a low-tech, Pop sensibility, Moulton plays a character whose interactions with the everyday world are both mundane and surreal, in a domestic sphere just slightly askew. As her protagonist navigates the enigmatic and possibly magical properties of her home decor, Moulton initiates relationships with objects and consumer products that are at once banal and uncanny.

Shana Moulton works in video and performance. Moulton studied at the University of California, Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, where she received her MFA. Moulton has also recently attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine, and studied at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. Her video work has been screened and exhibited internationally, including at The Armory Show Art Fair, New York; Smack Mellon, Brooklyn; Loop '05 Video Festival, Barcelona; Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin, Paris; Aurora, Edinburgh; Dark Light Festival, Dublin; Impakt Festival, Utrecht; Internationale Kurzfilmtage, Oberhausen; Canada Gallery, New York; and Bellwether, New York. Moulton currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

She has been awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Computer Arts and is currently an artist-in-residence at Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center in New York; in the Fall 1999 she will present with Fakeshop the performance/installation multiple_dwelling at The Ars Electronica Festival.

    Fereshteh Toosi is an interdisciplinary artist who works in video, sound, performance and public intervention; her work has been shown at Groupe Intervention Vidéo (Montréal), Art in General (New York) and Transformer Gallery (Washington DC). She received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. She holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Art and joined the NMS faculty in 2008; www.fereshteh.net.

  • Carrie Dashow People

    Carrie Dashow is a New York-based artist working in video, performance and new media; her participatory projects use public tools (greeting, island, building, friend, forest, map, history, camera) to create performances, videos and books that examine the subliminal. She co-directs the Society for a Subliminal State with Jesse Pearlman Karlsberg and developed The Subliminal History of New York State, including Under Island and a shape-note singing and "13th screen" tour beginning June 1st; her work has been shown at P.S.1/MOMA, UCLA Hammer Museum and Eyebeam. She holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (1994) and a Masters in Integrated Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

  • Laura Parnes People

    Laura Parnes is an artist working in narrative film and video who creates non-linear narratives as site-specific installations that use stylized sets and often require audiences to enter scripted environments. She has screened and exhibited widely at institutions including the Whitney, MoMA and Museo Reina Sofia and has had solo shows in London, Miami and New York. She held residencies at Montalvo Arts Center and Wexner Center, received Finishing Funds from the Experimental Television Center and support from the New York State Council on the Arts, has taught at NYU and is Visiting Artist at Cooper Union; she earned a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 1990.
