LoVid is Tali Hinkis and Kyle Lapidus. Using homemade electronic devices and DIY sculptural instruments, LoVid overwhelms the senses with new media in their performances, videos, objects, and installations. LoVid has toured the US and Europe extensively performing, exhibiting, and lecturing at The Butler Institute of American Art, Lumen's Evolution Festival, FACT, The Kitchen, Chicago Art Institute, Kansas City Art Institute, University of Wisconsin, SOUTHFIRST, Futuresonic Festival, The Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY Underground Film Festival, The Happy Lion, and Institute of Contemporary Art London among many others. LoVid is currently artist in residence at Stevens Institute of Technology, has been artist in residence at Eyebeam, Harvestworks, iEAR, and Alfred University, has received grants and awards from Experimental TV Center, NYSCA, and Greenwall Foundation, and is a free103Point9 transmission artist. In February 2007 LoVid will be exhibiting a new installation at the Neuberger Museum of Art. Tali Hinkis graduated in 2001 from Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. When she arrived in New York, Hinkis became interested in live video and collaborations with musicians and other visual artists. These collaborations were performed and exhibited at the Knitting Factory, Tonic, Exit Art, and Art in General. Hinkis' single channel videos have been screened worldwide in international festivals such as Media City, Video Zone, Hors-Circuit Paris-Berlin Film Festival, and Visual Studies Workshop. In 2001 Hinkis began collaborating with Kyle Lapidus as LoVid. In addition to LoVid Tali is the founder curator and organizer of the annual DIY craft and art fair La Superette, now in its ninth year. La Superette includes hundreds of artists and has been presented in Paris and New York galleries including Deitch Projects, Participant Inc, The Tank, and Exit Art. Hinkis is also an educator and teaching artist. She has worked as an artist in residence in numerous New York City public School Programs teaching media literacy and video as curriculum enhancement and has recently been appointed an adjunct professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. Kyle Lapidus graduated in 1997, Magna cum Laude from Harvard where he studied electronic music and neurobiology. After working in Eric Kandel's molecular neuroscience lab in Columbia University, Lapidus joined a program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As a musician, Lapidus has been an active member of the experimental music scene for over a decade. He has been a member of many performance-based bands including ORTHO and QXW, with which he has performed widely in the United States including DC MOCA, Knitting Factory, Berwick Institute, Hampshire College, RISD, and SUNY Buffalo. His recordings have been released on RRR, Carbon, Sunship, and other independent labels. In addition to producing his own work, Lapidus organizes and promotes musical events for international musicians in New York City and has released many limited edition and larger run records, CDs, DVDs, tapes, and other media by local and international artists. Since 2001 Lapidus has been working as a part of the duo LoVid. Lapidus is the principal engineer of LoVid's hardware video instruments.
