Tina LaPorta

LaPorta is a media artist who has been creating web-specific artwork since 1997. Ms. LaPorta has been an Artist-in-Residence at Ars Electronica's FutureLab (Linz, Austria) where she created her first web-specific work entitled TRACES. Traces has been included in many international festivals including SEAFAIR '98 (Macedonia), the International Festival for New Film (Croatia) and VIDEOMEDEJA (Bosnia).

Other net works by Tina LaPorta have been included in the ALT-X exhibition, "Being in Cyberspace", the "Maid in Cyberspace" exhibition at Studio XX (Montreal), the "Sex and Consciousness" exhibition in Paris, as well as the Leonardo Electronic Gallery (MIT press.) Her work has been included in the Web Site for the United Nations' Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing, China) and the Women and Performance On-Line Journal "Sexuality in Cyberspace." Ms. LaPorta has been invited to participate in several on-line symposia including: "Shock of the View," sponsored by the Walker Art Center, "POV Salon," sponsored by PBS Television Network, and the forthcoming "INVENCAO: Thinking The Next Millennium," conference to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

LaPorta has organized and moderated several symposia including "Women in New Media" for the 16th Annual Women in the Arts Conference at Rutgers University, presented her work at the Feminist Art/Art History Conference at Barnard and has given a lecture on Artistic Practice in the Network at Cooper Union. She also Moderated a panel discussion for the Women's Caucus of the College Art Association's Conference in 1994 which investigated the relationship between information technologies and representations of the body. LaPorta has also been an Artist-in-Residence at the Experimental Television Center (Owego, New York) where she completed her video short Camera Work which has been screened at the New York International Video Festival, The SoHo Arts Festival and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

Other videos by Tina LaPorta have been screened at The Kitchen, P.S. 122, Art in General as well as Net casted via the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University. During the 1996-97 season, LaPorta produced the monthly Television show, "CyberFemme TV," on Manhattan Cable Television. LaPorta earned her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in 1994.

Traces a web-based video installation exploring concepts of presence and absence within a digital context. This work is part of the Artist in Residence program at the Ars Electronica Futurelab (Linz, Austria). S H I F T I N G http://www.users.interport.net/~laporta a web-based work which explores connectivity and dispersed presence within a networked environment. Shifting has been included in the Alt-X exhibition: Digital Studies Being in Cyberspace.

Tina LaPorta is a media artist who has created web-specific artwork since 1997; she was Artist-in-Residence at Ars Electronica's FutureLab (Linz, Austria), where she created the web-based video installation TRACES.     Siebren Versteeg is a media artists living and working in Brooklyn, NY; he has exhibited worldwide and is represented by the Max Protech Gallery in New York. He develops a new language for digital media, transforming computer art into conceptually based works that integrate live, real-time information from television and internet sources and combine popular culture with film, photography and painting; his work examines information availability and proliferation from the associated press to online diaries to live television.     Ursula Endlicher is an artist whose work intersects the Internet, performance and multi-media installation; since the mid-1990s she has used HTML to choreograph performances, visualize code in installations and translate it into sound. Her work has been shown internationally at venues in Z¸rich, Vienna, Istanbul, Pittsburgh and New York; she received commissions from Turbulence.org/New Radio, Performing Arts, Inc. and the Whitney Museum for its artport website. Her work appears in Rhizome's Art Base and in ursula blicke videoarchiv; she was born in Vienna and lives in New York.

  • Tarikh Korula People

    Tarikh Korula is an artist whose video and sound work has been shown at ISEA (France and Japan), Siggraph, London’s ICA and in the online collection Refresh: The Art of the Screensaver at ArtMuseum.net; his pieces have been performed in New York City venues. He received The Media Alliance’s Independent Radio and Sound Art Fellowship in 2002 for City/Slice, was Research and Development Artist-in-Residence at Eyebeam Digital Atelier in 2003, and earned his Masters from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in 2000. He has taught workshops at FIT and The Edit Center, runs Uncommon Projects, and works experimentally with consumer electronics, video, software and audio, producing projects including Square Dance and L'il Sis.

  • Vanessa Lauria People

    Vanessa Lauria is an artist from upstate New York who grew up in Buffalo, attended Syracuse University and lives in Rochester; she majored in illustration. She experimented with fibers as a medium, drawing with a needle and sewing machine and painting with fabric patterns and textures, and after exposure to avant-garde cinema by Maya Deren and Jan Svankmajer she produced several animation projects. She uses rotoscoping to alter video frames by hand and works in cross-stitch, embroidery and appliqué; she received a Finishing Funds 2006 award from the Experimental Television Center.
