Tirtza Even completed two graduate degrees at New York University as a Fulbright Scholar before launching her career as a video artist and documentary maker. She has taught video and multimedia production and post-production, experimental and documentary film theory, video art, media theory, and production at New York University, Columbia University and other colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. She has worked in the Residency Program at the Experimental Television Center. Her articles on video art history and theory have been published in Israel and the United States. She joined the University of Michigan faculty 2005. Since 1995, Even has produced both linear and interactive video work representing the less overt manifestations of complex and sometimes extreme social/political dynamics in specific locations such as Palestine, Turkey, Spain, the U.S., and Germany. Her work has appeared at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Whitney Biennial, and the Johannesburg Biennial as well as many other festivals, galleries and museums in the United States, Israel and Europe. She is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Jewish Museum of New York, and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, among others. Even has been an invited guest and featured speaker at numerous conferences and university programs, including the Whitney Museum Seminar series, the Digital Flaherty Seminar, the Art Pace annual panel, ACM Multimedia, the Performance Studies International Conference (PSI), and the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts Conference (SLSA).
