Tyler Gooden

Tyler Gooden received his BFA from The Atlanta College of Art and Design, where he studied under Sara Hornbacher; additional study through the International Student Residency Program at the Experimental Television Center under Pam Hakwins and Hank Rudolph. He also studied a semester abroad in Cortona, Italy. Soon after graduation, he became a director of NBC's Hip Hop Nation and FOX Sports' Playground Earth.

He often exhibits through the acclaimed arts collective, Dos Pestaneos. His exhibitions have ranged from The High Museum of Art, to Jeleni Studios in Prague, to The Landing, in Brooklyn. A sound installation involving the recordings of forty-five different languages led him on a trek across Europe. He settled in Prague, as an artist in residency at Jeleni Studios. He quickly became an illustrator and writer for local newspapers.

His work as an illustrator and his knowledge of visual effects led him to a job as a Visual Effects Assistant on Terry Gilliam's The Brothers Grimm, which will be released in August 2005. He went on to work as a Match Move Technician on Alien vs Predator. Tyler turned from Hollywood films and began associating himself with local Czech artists. He was offered work on Jan Svankmajer's latest project as an animation assistant. He turned it down to pursue a career as a director.

Tyler is currently directing promotional clips for the Czech music industry, working on commercials, and developing a script. His video clips have aired across the Czech Republic and Germany, and are competing in the music video charts. He is based in Prague.

Summary

    Michael Scroggins is a videographic and computer animator who has worked in real-time videographic animation since 1970 and in non-real-time 3D computer animation since 1983; he became active in immersive VR in 1992 after receiving a Banff Centre for the Arts grant and premiered the VR installation Topological Slide at the Fourth International Conference on Cyberspace in 1993. He holds an MFA from CalArts and has been on the CalArts faculty since 1978; he studied under Nam June Paik and Shuya Abe and collaborated on the Paik/Abe Video Synthesizer. His absolute animation works have been screened internationally at institutions including the Centre George Pompidou, the Union of Filmmakers in Moscow, Seibu Ginza in Tokyo, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

    Ed Bowes, trained in the film industry, reframes videotape as a medium for television drama and made feature-length works including Romance (1976), Better, Stronger (1978), and How To Fly (1980); he was developing an eight-part series Oh, No. Paula!. He emphasizes real-time aesthetics, long complex master shots, narration and conversational syntax, and has used both nonactors and professionals; Better, Stronger was made as artist-in-residence at WNET/Thirteen's Television Laboratory. Bowes served on NYSCA's media panel (1982–85), on the NYFA Artists' Fellowship Board, received grants from NEA, Jerome, NYSCA, CAPS and Rockefeller, teaches at the School of Visual Arts and lives in New York City; the interview was conducted in November–December 1985 and funded by an NYSCA media writing grant.

  • Adam Chao People

    Adam Chao holds a BS from New York University and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts; he serves as an independent consultant for motion graphics and has been a video systems administrator for a commercial animation studio. He has performed at the Ontario Open Air Teknival and the Festival of Mixology at the Performance Garage; his work employs a focused palette of technicals using available digital resources.
