Abstract

The book discusses the importance of video in view of technological, aesthetic and media cultural aspects. The main argument is that video represents a medium of its own and not an intermediary stage between analog and digital.On the contrary, early video experiments demonstrate a close connection between video and computer, and at the same time video is interacting with experimental film, happening and installation arts, television and performance.Since its early phase video has developed as an emerging art form with a set of aesthetic languages that are specific to the medium.
