William Wegman, born Holyoke, Massachusetts 1943, earned a BFA (Massachusetts College of Art, 1965) and an MFA (University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, 1967); after teaching he moved from painting to photography and video. In Long Beach he acquired Man Ray, beginning twelve-year collaboration; Wegman moved to New York in 1972, acquired Fay Ray (1986) and began using Polaroid 20 x 24 camera, with litters in 1989 and 1995. His work has been exhibited internationally, including a retrospective at Whitney Museum of American Art; he lives in New York and Maine.
