    Red Burns is chair of the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and communications professor at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts; ITP was founded in 1979. She began in new media in 1971 by co-founding the Alternate Media Center; her 1970s–1980s telecommunications projects—two-way television, services for the developmentally disabled and an early Teletext field trial—led to ITP. She serves on NYC's Mayor's Council on New Media and Pataki's Task Force, has received awards including Matrix and Crain's, and is developing a CD-ROM and the Electronic Neighborhood funded by Nynex and Viacom.

  • Educational Communication Centers and the Television Arts Chronology

    Conference Educational Communication Centers and the Television Arts convened at SUNY Albany on November 21-22, 1974; coordinated by Gerald O'Grandy of the Center for Media Study at SUNY Buffalo. The stated purpose was to present developments in the video arts and related technology and to outline ways communication centers can serve developing media artists on their campuses and stimulate media activities in the arts and humanities. Presenters included O'Grady, Steina Vasulka (Center for Media Study, U of Buffalo), Tom DeWitt, Paul Kaufman (NCET at KQED), Fred Barzyk (Television Workshop at WGBH), David Loxton (TV Lab at WNET), Ed Emshwiller, Joel Chadabe and representatives from the Experimental Television Center and NYS Council on the Arts.
